The Irish Guild of Sommeliers

Written by Emmet Fitzgerald, Trustee, The Irish Guild of Sommeliers

The Guild was formed in 1958 and is affiliated to A.S.I, the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale. Its main aims are:

To promote amongst its members a greater knowledge of and interest in wines and their service.

To arrange educational and cultural activities to this end.

To promote business, social and friendly functions amongst members.

In pursuit of those aims, the Guild has a range of courses to help members develop their knowledge and practical skills. It arranges regular tutored tastings in Ireland and visits to the various wine producing countries abroad. It organises regional and national competitions as well as encouraging and assisting members to take part in national and international competitions and events organised by leading wine companies, at which the Guild has represented Ireland on numerous occasions and is highly regarded, in this field.

We issue periodic notices of the various activities arranged by the Guild and we hope that you will take full advantage of the opportunities to meet regularly with like minded wine lovers in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
